If you only scrapbook chronologically, here's what you're missing:
As I was organizing photos recently, I came across this great pair of photos with some of my favorite cousins. I loved this - how we were standing in the same order - in 1991 & 2005. Putting these photos together shows how things have changed as time has gone by. It shows how much I've loved these cousins of mine throughout the years - even though we haven't always been able to stay in the best of touch because of distance.
I think that when people only scrap chronologically, they're missing part of the big picture. Now don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with scrapping chronologically sometimes. I'm finishing up my 2007 highlights album now. But that's all it is - highlights. Because my real passions, and the things that mean the most to me? They're just not sorted by date. Dates don't matter. Life matters. Relationships and connections. Moments and memories.
Making these connections across several years is so rewarding. This page is one of my new favorites, proudly housed in an album collecting all sorts of layouts featuring people I love.
This is stress-free scrapbooking. It's not about dates. It's about memories. It's about moments.
Feel free to scrap your favorite events, and scrap them in order. But don't miss out on the chance to create great pages featuring great memories, just because when you started scrapbooking, someone told you that you were supposed to go in order. Create your life. Have fun.
If you want to learn more about this great approach to scrapbooking, I challenge to you to read Stacy Julian's book The Big Picture, or sign up for a class at Big Picture Scrapbooking.
